National Pet Dental Health Month

February is an important month for your children and pets! During this month, both the American Dental Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association celebrate dental-related awareness to improve the smiles of our children and pets. All month, we celebrate National Pet Dental Health Month, where we want to address the significance of taking care of your pet’s oral health.

During your pet’s appointments with us, we always check their teeth and gums to make sure they’re in the best shape they can be. Dentistry for pets include some of the same services that people receive, including cleanings, extractions, or repair/reconstruction.

All pet owners should make sure that they’re doing all they can to protect their pets’ teeth and gums at home by maintaining a healthy diet, actively brushing their teeth, and asking us about helpful dental products, treats, or foods that your pet could benefit from.

If you’re noting any of these problems in or around your pet’s mouth, you should make an appointment with us as soon as possible:

  • Bad breath
  • Discolored teeth
  • Teeth visibly coated in tartar
  • Swelling in areas around the mouth
  • Excessive drooling
  • Abnormal chewing or dropping food from the mouth
